After an early start, with a 7:30am departure, we drive through Lancaster County's 'Amish Country' to the town of Gettysburg & its surrounding National Military Park where we learned about the July 1863 battle that proved a turning point in the Civil War.
Our visit began with an introductory movie, followed by a visit to the 'Cyclorama'. We then reboarded our bus for a two hour tour of the battlefield with our excellent & entertaining guide, Don. Prompting the students to interact with him continually, cracking jokes, but at the same time educating us with a huge depth of knowledge, Don brought the battle to life in many ways, explaining many of the background details of how Civil War soldiers fought, marched, etc.
We had free time for lunch & shopping i the gift shop, visited the battlefield museum, then departed for Hershey.
Built by Milton S. Hershey in 1903 as the home of his new factory, Hershey is now known as Chocolate Town, USA. As well as an amusement park with rides, Hershey is also home to Hershey's Chocolate World, our destination.
We all rode the 'Great American Chocolate Tour', then had free time for other attractions or shopping. Some of the group went to the Hershey 4D Experience, some to Hershey's Create Your Own Candy Bar, & others to the Hershey Chocolate Tasting Adventure. All enjoyed themselves.
We ended our day with a great Italian family-style dinner, then drove back to our hotel, ending another great day, packed with sights & experiences.
